History
Matéria, formerly Simone DeSousa Gallery, is a contemporary art gallery and project located in Cass Corridor, Midtown Detroit, since 2009, with its second location in Core City Detroit from the Fall of 2023 through the Fall of 2025.
The gallery, which also includes an EDITION space, has presented more than 120 exhibitions in the fifteen years, including works by local and international emerging and mid-career artists, and has played a pivotal role in supporting contemporary art and design in Detroit.
Matéria's first activation in Detroit's historic Eastern Market opens to the public on January 24, 2026.
